Beating The Storm Through Reading

I just grabbed a copy of Ned Vizzini's It's Kind of a Funny Story at the Powerbooks in Trinoma. I was actually after Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse, and went searching two National Bookstore branches BUT in vain.

Last night, after receiving a *good* news regarding the suspension of classes because of a typhoon, I decided to take the three remaining large gulps of my vodka and ripped open my ONLY gift-wrapped birthday present. I managed to reach upto page 33 of HarryPotter 7 before I finally doze off.

The other night (Tuesday), I read Blue Bloods, a sort of a chic lit. I finished without intending to. I was supposed to take an exam the next morning. It's actually the same exam that had been put off because of a previous storm. Anyway, I still went to school and spent my entire afternoon there because my thesis mates and I had to take the blood glucose measurements of our dear little pets, I mean, lab pets.

This afternoon, I went to watch a documentary from the Moonrise Festival in Robinsons Galleria entitled Endangered Tales. I wouldn't be going if it wasn't for my Ecology class. We're required to attend and pass a reaction paper due next week.

But somehow, I kind of enjoyed the film, aside from the cozy seats of the cinemahouse. I saw my teacher (being interviewed) on the bigscreen! Could that be the reason?

One thing that stuck on my mind is a quote from Mr. Leonard Co, a senior botanist of the Conservation International and the so-called "Walking Herbarium" because of his brilliant talent in plant taxonomy.

Says he: "Biology is boring. My god! Ginawang boring ang biology sa loob ng classroom. Pero sa field...sa field...!"

I can't wait for our field work in Batangas.

Anything but the benthos, please (I've been paranoid with the ubiquitous nematodes since our 116 lab session).
